FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne will kick off their 2020 build season in collaboration with Lancia Homes with a press conference on Friday, June 12 at 11am. The first three out of ten Habitat homes this year will be built in Lancia’s Victoria Lakes Subdivision in New Haven. In total, Habitat has the option to purchase 10 lots from Lancia to be developed by Habitat over the next few years.

“By partnering with Habitat it will allow us to be actively involved in helping them build quality, affordable housing that helps to build better lives for families in our community,” stated Jamie Lancia, President of Lancia Homes who also served as a Habitat Board Member from 2013-2019. “This partnership builds upon our 25-year history of working with Habitat to strengthen community development.”

The model home chosen for Victoria Lakes, the Anna Maria, will be a two-story, 1,804 square foot home featuring three bedrooms, two baths, a two-car garage, and a front porch. Each home will also include added masonry details to the front façade keeping with the neighborhood’s aesthetic.

Marking their first build in the New Haven community since 2009, Habitat is excited to partner with a fellow homebuilder.

“Our partnership with Lancia Homes in Victoria Lakes enables us to bring people together to create an economically diverse community while also fulfilling our mission to provide hope through affordable mortgages for families who would otherwise be considered unqualified for a traditional mortgage,” explained Habitat CEO, Andrew Gritzmaker.

Each Habitat homeowner is required to place a down payment on their home and complete 400 hours of sweat equity to obtain an affordable mortgage.

“Habitat is a hand up, not a handout,” stated New Haven’s Mayor, Steve McMichael. As a realtor for 26 years prior to becoming New Haven’s Mayor, Steve McMichael has seen firsthand the affordable housing crisis in New Haven and throughout Northeast Indiana. “The Habitat homes being built in New Haven will help fulfill the need in our community,” McMichael stated. “As a former homebuying class instructor, I can say with certainty that Habitat owners are among the most well educated and prepared home buyers, the 400 hours of sweat equity each buyer commits to helps build a positive impact on not only their family but also the entire community. I welcome our newest city residents and invite you to explore all the great things New Haven has to offer, and I am confident that you will find the New Haven community to be welcoming and full of people that look out for each other and truly care. I believe you will quickly exclaim #ILoveNewHaven!”
