building homes, communities, and hope

We officially welcomed 34 new Partner Families into the Habitat Homeownership Program! Families received their hard hats, reviewed expectations of the program, and looked forward to what’s to come as they work toward their dream of homeownership.

  • “I never thought homeownership would be possible for me and my family.”

  • The best advice I can give is to communicate — make Andrew and Lauren (Homeowner Service Advocates) your best friends. Keep that communication open and they will fight for you no matter what.”

What has been your favorite moment in your home so far?

We’ve had two BBQs — one during our home dedication to celebrate with Habitat staff and volunteers. But, what I like most about our home is that it’s ours. We can go in the backyard, set up a tent and blankets on the ground to watch a movie as a family, and just chill.

It’s a joy to have somewhere safe for your kids to call home. You don’t have to move — they know they have somewhere to come home to every day.

I’m building it. I’m buying it.

Each Partner Family commits to up to 250 hours of sweat equity (building homes on the construction site, volunteering at the Fort Wayne ReStore, etc.), completes 8 financial and homeownership education classes, pays $1,500 toward the purchase of their home before closing, and takes on an affordable mortgage that is no more than 26% of their gross monthly income.
