For a long time, I didn’t think homeownership was something I could achieve. It always felt just out of reach. But, I showed up, I put in the hours, and I kept going, even when it wasn’t easy.”
2026 Annual Report: Homeowner Services
Homeowner Services Update
For 40 years, we have continued to grow our impact with one goal in mind: helping more families build strength, stability, and self-reliance through affordable homeownership. As we expanded into new counties, we’ve increased the number of mortgages we’re servicing (and families we’re supporting). We’ve also successfully increased our home construction efforts and developed partnerships with local builders to serve even more Habitat families. In addition, we launched home repair programs that help families remain in the homes they love and expanded our community outreach through landscaping projects and other initiatives that improve quality of life.

Sam + Maya’s Story
We have been struggling for as long as we can remember, so getting this opportunity quite literally feels like a miracle. We can’t thank everyone enough for helping us achieve our dreams. — Sam
Born in Syria, twins Sam and Maya immigrated to the United States with their mom. They proudly became U.S. citizens in 2019. For many years, their mother, Melania, dreamed of providing a safe and stable home for her children. She applied to the Habitat Homeownership Program several times, and early 2025 Melania was accepted. But just before she would begin her homeownership orientation, Melania tragically passed away from Stage 4 sarcoma cancer. Their mom’s passing left Sam and Maya without their greatest advocate. With no support from their father, they turned to one another and pressed forward, determined to continue the dream their mother had started.
Today, both are contributing to their 250 hours of sweat equity as they work through the Homeownership Program without their mom. They’re also building paths toward meaningful careers that serve others. Sam is studying biomedical engineering and hopes to become a surgeon, while Maya is pursuing a nursing degree.
