Position Summary
The Construction Site Manager will lead the day-to-day physical construction of Habitat homes. This role ensures that every build day is productive, safe, and educational, transforming a construction site into a community-building space while maintaining high standards of craftsmanship.

Main Responsibilities
- Leads and directs daily construction operations on active build sites, overseeing volunteer crews and Future Homeowners through all phases of residential construction, from framing through interior finishes.
- Translates construction plans into safe, organized, and productive work assignments, ensuring each build day advances the project schedule.
- Trains and coaches volunteers—many with little to no prior experience—in the safe and effective use of hand and power tools while maintaining adherence to the Indiana Residential Code and Habitat construction standards.
- Conducts daily jobsite safety briefings and enforces OSHA compliance, serving as the on-site “Competent Person” and proactively identifying and mitigating hazards.
- Maintains accountability for site safety, personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, fall protection, ladder safety, and material handling protocols.
- Oversees jobsite logistics, including material deliveries, inventory control, tool management, and staging to ensure workflow efficiency and minimize downtime.
- Inspects and verifies the quality of work performed by volunteers and subcontractors, ensuring structural integrity, energy-efficiency standards, and long-term durability expectations are met.
- Tracks and verifies Future Homeowner sweat equity hours in accordance with program requirements.
- Communicates consistently with leadership regarding schedule progress, site needs, safety concerns, and resource planning.
- Fosters a culture of professionalism, teamwork, and servant leadership while representing Habitat’s mission on every build site.
- Must be willing to work Tuesday – Saturday to provide support during volunteer days.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Demonstrated mastery of residential construction practices, including framing, roofing, siding, interior finish work, and jobsite sequencing.
- Ability to break down complex construction tasks into clear, manageable steps for volunteers with no prior experience.
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to motivate diverse groups while maintaining authority, accountability, and safety standards.
- Sound judgment and quick decision-making when addressing structural challenges, schedule adjustments, or material shortages.
- Ability to maintain project momentum despite volunteer variability and weather conditions.
- Exceptional awareness of jobsite safety standards and risk mitigation practices.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining quality control and schedule discipline.
- Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to build rapport with volunteers, Future Homeowners, subcontractors, and community stakeholders.
- A current and valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record is required.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred; equivalent field leadership experience considered.
- Active Residential Contractor’s License (or ability to obtain and maintain in Indiana).
- OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety Certification required; OSHA 30-hour strongly preferred (must obtain within 30 days if not currently certified).
- Minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on residential construction experience, including at least one year in a supervisory, foreman, or crew lead capacity.
- Demonstrated ability to lead volunteer-based or mixed-skill crews effectively.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience in nonprofit, community development, or faith-based construction environments strongly preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and perform physical tasks such as bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
- Some evening or weekend work may be required, depending on property needs or emergency situations.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions when visiting job sites.
- Requires the physical readiness to work in proximity to heavy construction equipment (e.g., excavators, forklifts, compactors), always ensuring strict adherence to PPE and site safety guidelines.
- Travel to surrounding areas or states may be required.
