Position Summary

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Fort Wayne is a nonprofit Christian housing ministry that unites volunteers and local investors with qualified families to build safe, stable, affordable homes in Northeast Indiana. Construction Site Managers oversee construction activities on Habitat job sites and lead and direct groups of community volunteers.

Main Responsibilities

  • Supervise construction activities on job sites.
  • Lead and direct groups of volunteers in framing, siding, interior finishes, landscaping, and related activities.
  • Oversee the safety of all labor while on the jobsite.
  • Coordinate delivery/receiving of materials on the jobsite.
  • Administer quality control and construction practices to ensure homes are built with excellence, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Coordinate daily site preparation and construction activities with the construction team.
  • Manage relationships and act as an ambassador for Habitat in all interactions with volunteers, Partner Families, trade partners, and employees.
  • Assist with warranty service efforts as necessary.
  • Assist with other responsibilities as assigned to support Habitat’s mission.
  • Must be willing to work Saturdays to support volunteer days.

Competencies

  • Knowledge of new home construction and rehabilitation projects with emphasis on framing, siding, interior finishes, and landscaping preferred.
  • Must be able to teach and lead groups of unskilled volunteers on use of tools, equipment, and construction processes.
  • Must be a strong leader who is able to communicate objectives, juggle multiple priorities, and thoughtfully inspire others.
  • Must be a skilled problem solver with the ability to intuitively see how things work.
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups of people including subcontractors and inspectors.
  • Capable of exercising autonomy and making timely decisions in the field.
  • Ability to maintain composure and professionalism at all times.
  • Proficiency in Computer Use and Microsoft Office required.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required, Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field preferred.
  • 3 years of Construction or related experience required.
  • Previous experience with OSHA requirements preferred.
  • Experience with power and hand tools, machinery, and operation of light-duty equipment including trailers required.

Physical Requirements

  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity for tablet and computer use.
  • Able to utilize the telephone to communicate with others, inside and out of an office environment.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to move about rough terrain at site locations.
  • Must be able to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • Must be able to lift 75 pounds.
