We’re back Huntington!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our press conference and kickoff to celebrate two more Huntington families realizing their dream of homeownership.

Habitat staff gathered with Mayor Strick, Scott Glaze (representing the Ardelle and Theresa Glaze Foundation), volunteers from Gerdau, members of the community, and future homeowner, Jadee.

  • “A safe, decent, affordable home is more than just a place to live. It is the foundation upon which individuals and families build their lives, dreams, and futures. Habitat is creating opportunities where they didn’t exist before.”

At its core, Habitat is a grassroots, community effort. To build upon and strengthen our efforts in Huntington, Habitat CEO, Jeremy McClish, announced Habitat GFW has opened a position for a Huntington Area Manager. The ideal candidate for this role is someone who is energized to engage with the community, advocate for affordable housing, provide community leadership, and work with Mayor Strick and his team on how to tackle the affordable housing crisis in Huntington and continue to serve more families.

This year’s build season is made possible in part by the Ardelle and Theresa Glaze Foundation, IHCDA, Our Lady of Victory Missionary Sisters, Bendix, 1st Source Foundation, Novae, and Bippus State Bank.

Future Habitat Homeowner

Jadee

“This home is everything. My girls can’t wait to finally invite their friends over for sleepovers.” As a single mom to four children, a Habitat home to Jadee means safety and security. She shared through tears that being a single parent is hard, but not having a roof over your kids’ heads is harder. Fortunately, Jadee has “a small village” surrounding her that has helped provide a place for her and her girls to stay while she’s working to complete the Habitat Homeownership Program.

Jadee has been working for the same organization for 10 years — she is gainfully employed and does not lack a strong work ethic or love for her family. Jadee simply needs an opportunity…and she is seizing that opportunity through Habitat now. “I’m learning about budgets, managing money, and how to be a successful homeowner. I’m tremendously grateful for what everyone is doing for us, thank you.”
