Katie

Through hard work and financial education with Habitat GFW, the support of generous donors, and dedicated volunteers, Katie overcame debt and achieved her dream of homeownership, creating a brighter future for her and her daughter.

  • This isn’t just getting accepted into a program to get a house; it’s 100% earned. The support I’ve received has changed everything for us.” — Katie, Habitat Homeowner

crushing debt + achieving goals

A few years ago, Katie’s dream of homeownership felt out of reach when she was denied for a traditional mortgage. “It was heartbreaking. My goal has been to own my home by 30,” she shared.

Determined, Katie turned to Habitat GFW. Over the past year, she’s worked alongside volunteers and other families, building homes and preparing for her own. Through eight classes centered on homeownership and financial literacy, she learned to manage her finances and pay off 90% of her $10,000 debt.

Habitat Home = Financial Stability

Earlier this year (at age 30!) Katie achieved her dream of becoming a homeowner. Now, with her Habitat home, Katie’s mortgage is designed to be no more than 26% of her income, giving her room to save for her and her daughter’s future.

Katie’s journey proves that with hard work, hope, and the right support, dreams can become reality.
